Can't find a birth record for Helen Loag

Post by Brenda » Sat Apr 28, 2007 2:21 am

Helen Loag dgt of Samuel Loag & Mary Ann Muir Murray, married Robert McCracken [ son of John McCracken & Janet McCreadie ] June 10th 1910. Glasgow. On the Cert her age is 20 so she was born abt 1890?

Death cert for Helen McCracken [ nee Loag] March 16th 1952 gives her age as 62

The 1891 Census shows a Samuel Loag [ can't read his age] B Glasgow
Mary, wife , 24, B Gourock
NELLIE daughter, B Glasgow.

Do you think this is Helen??

Hi Brenda,
Nellie is a recognized nickname for Helen (also Ellen and Elinor) so I think you have probably found her! Loag is not a very common name-- good find!
All the best,
Sarah

Hi Brenda

Ancestry thinks that Samuel is 22 years old......I haven't veiwed the original so can't comment.....

Hi Sarah , thanks for telling me about the nicknames.
Hate to tell you how much I wasted on SP viewing wrong records #-o

Jean, that info ties in with the MC for Samuel & Mary, they married in Cadder.

Thanks to both of you
Brenda

Hi Brenda,
I only know about Nellie because I have been searching for a Nellie for years and have still not found when and where she was born, nor who her parents were :( She was born about 1888-9 and died Jan 1910, thereby only getting into one U.S. census (1890 was destroyed). Around that time in the U.S. Nellie was a very popular name-- nearly every family seems to have had one in the area I am looking.
Regards,
Sarah

Hi Brenda,
The free search on SP is telling me that there is one Nellie Loag born in 1890 in Glasgow City. Have you looked at her and she is not the right one? I started with *el* l*g* and gradually narrowed it down from there.
All the best,
Sarah
