Scottish Surnames

Post by Pandabean » Thu May 03, 2007 2:59 pm

Hi,

I just noticed a thread that talks about the book "The Surnames of Scotland". I was wondering if someone who has the book could do a quick lookup on two names? I am tempted to buy the book but the price on amazon is £16. :O

The names are Greenlees and Fairnie.

Thanks,
Andy

Hi Andy
A trip to a local studies/family history library, or in an emergengy a book shop  should let you see the entries!
It is a book I've often thought about buying but never got around to because I don't think I'd use it that often, so I can't quite justify the expense!

Best wishes
Lesley

Try a Google advanced book search
http://books.google.com.au/advanced_book_search

Type surname or surnames or whatever in the title box. You can even type the name of the book you mentioned but put it within quotes. You’ll only get a snippet but if you don’t get a result the name probably isn’t in the book.

Type a surname in the “with all the words” box.

See what turns up.

(They probably didn’t have Google Books in 2007)
