David LAWSON & Sarah COMRIE from Blackford PER SCT

Post by malwil2 » Wed May 09, 2007 2:48 am

Seeking decendants of David LAWSON (1773 - 1847) and Sarah COMRIE (1772 - c1843) who married 16 Nov 1794 Blackford PER SCT. Children are: William (1795 - ?); John (1797 - 1832); David (? - ?); Peter (1802 - 1880) and Sarah (1817 -1870).

John married Janet STIRLING, Peter married Margaret STIRLING and Sarah married Peter STIRLING all from the same family.

I have been unable to link this family to mine from William LAWSON (?1743 - ?) and Lillias SINCLAIR (1745 - ?). They had a son called David and partial naming patterns suggests that the above David is their son but there is not a death record (other than from his will), since he died pre civil registration and there are no cemetery records either.

David was a blacksmith and his sons were also involved in this business, expanding out into the firm of Dron & Lawson, Toolmakers in Glasgow. A grandson David (1822 - 1916) was a banker and merchant in Blackford and he had a son Dr David James Lawson (1860 - 1903) who practised medicine in Dorset ENG. His wife Elizabeth Annie (ms Sharp) died in 1945 Tonbridge KEN ENG. They had a daughter Lillian Elizabeth (1901 - 1971) who married a RICKMORE.

Hi Mal:

Have you checked the IGI, as there is a great deal of information about this family? I didn't see a listing for David born to David Lawson and Sarah Comrie. The other four children, their marriages and births of children appear, including one for David, born to John Lawson & Janet Stirling in 1822, and another David born to Peter Lawson & Margaret Stirling in 1827.

Is it possible that John & Janet's son David is being mistaken for David and Sarah's child, as he is only 5 years younger than Sarah?

Frances

Gidday Frances.

I have verified most of the data for David and Sarah and their decendants either through the IGI but mostly via GRO records. I have copies of birth death and marriage records as well as various census records. I too couldn't find Davids birth, but he is mentioned in his father's will of 1849 as is Peter and deceased son John. I'll keep on searching. I have found reference to the Dron & Lawson Engineers on the Scottish Family Heritage website. I hope to obtain copies of documents relating to what appears as a court case with precognitions from various Lawsons connected to this firm. Might find something interesting here?

Kind Regards,

Mal

Just as a matter of note Mal, I live near Blackford and the surnames you mention are still prolific in the area!

The sun is shining over Blackford as we speak and the water is great (Highland Spring) :D

Annie
Searching: Pow - Stirlingshire, Pender - Paisley, Gray - Alva, Paisley, Elderslie, Canning - Stirling, Morrison, Innes and Wilson - Glasgow to name a few!

Gidday Annie.

In 1996, we (2 brothers 1 sister and spouses), spent 2 weeks at Rowan Cottage near Dunning and searched high and low for some living relatives in the area, but to no avail. We even attended church at Blackford one Sunday, doubling the congregation!!. Knowing what I know now I am determined to return as there must be decendants still in the area as you suggest. As well as the Lawsons I have PATON, EADIE, ANDERSON, McNABB, SHARP, DEWAR, DAVIDSON, STIRLING, THOMSON, BURDEN, STEWART, HALLY, CUNNINGHAM, McLAREN, RUSSELL and TAYLOR connections from the area.

I would love to know of anyone who may be connected. I have a contact in Andrew Eadie who lives in Paisley but no one else.

The LAWSON's appeared to have moved out of the area early in the piece, with the exception of David the banker, but I know the EADIE's and HALLY's were around for quite some time. They had interests in shoemaking, bakeries (in Auchterarder), blacksmiths and breweries. There is still an engineering firm in Blackford with the HALLY name.

As well as my branch of the Lawsons emmigrating to Australia, others have turned up in Canada, the USA and New Zealand.

MALWIL2 - I too have Eadie and Sharp ancestors from around Blackford....John Sharp ( my ggg grandfather) b 1816 Blackford m Elizabeth Mcdiarmid.

Their son Andrew m Elizabeth Eadie. Elizabeth's sister Robina Eadie was also my ggg grandmother.

Robina's son John Mcrae m Ann Sharp who was John and Elizabeth's daughter !! Suitably complicated.

The farm that Robina's father John Eadie had ( Netherton of Buttergask)seemed to be owned by a P Stirling of Kippendavie? would that be any relative of yours?

I have a lot more info on the Sharps and the eadies if you think you are related....

I am descended from one of the several EADIE families of Blackford.
A sister (Mary) of my great-grandfather (John Eadie) married William Sharp in 1849 and were living at Damakellis outside Blackford in the 1851 Census.

Does any of that tie in to your information on Sharps and Eadies?
