Unregistered births

Mary FLETCHER born Paisley 1820/21 I cannot find a birth record for her at SP or IGI. Banns for Andrew ROBERTSON and Mary 30/11/39 Paisley ,I have.Is there any one who could possibly do a look up for me?? Or give me another avenue to try?
I joined TalkingScots this morning after a friend told me about it. I am new to PC's and genealogy, not a good combination.

A parent search onthe online IGI gives the following children for Andrew Robertson and Mary Fletcher.

ROBERT CALDWELL ROBERTSON - Birth: 06 JAN 1856 Milton, Glasgow, Lanarkshire
ELIZABETH ROBERTSON - Birth: 21 SEP 1858 Calton, Glasgow, Lanarkshire

It looks like any pre-1855 (before the start of statutory registration in Scotland) were not recorded in the Old Parochial Registers (OPRs). It was not statutory for births, or more commonly baptisms were not registered in the OPRs. For some this was because it was non-statutory, for others it may be that they belonged to a church other than the Established Chutrch of Scotland which recorded and maintained the OPRs.

The other outside chance is that they were recorded in the OPR, but that OPR book, or section of, has not survived. Some were lost over the years.

Andrew, thank you for your response, I knew about Marys children Andrew Jnr, John , James and Robert from 1851 census, having trouble with 1861 census, but as these other children where born in Glasgow I can now narrow down my search.I am trying to find Marys parents names, also Andrew Snr .I'm pretty sure it will be Andrew for Andrew as this tradition only stopped with my generation. One male and he is Kevin.

Have you tried searching for Mary's death on SP? You can search on both her maiden and married surnames. That should give her parents names

Hi emanday, yes I have tried SP and IGI but nothing comes up on either, in Robertson or Fletcher. The Banns only give the couples name and no parents,on IGI and SP.With Caldwell as a middle name for one son I tried variants on that with both names also, as my grandfathers middle name was Fletcher,thinking one of the mothers maiden names may have been Caldwell.
Thankfully I am a patient little pixie and just keep plodding along.Thank you for your help,tis much appreciated.
