Hi Mossiepossie
Have you tried a search for the 1916 marriage? You should be able to find that on SP. The marriage should then give you his parents' names and armed with those you should know when you have found the correct birth, and then possibly look for him in the 1881 and maybe 1891 census.

There is a marriage on SP in Glasgow in 1916 of Alexander Fraser & Catherine Burns Johnston.
Time to whip out the credit or debit card and blow caution to the winds on Scotlands People!!

Best wishes
Lesley

Hi Mossiepossie,

His birth is there in Kilmallie (Inverness-shire), the parish for Fort William, but he is a couple of years older than he gave on his marriage certificate. On ScotlandsPeople if you search for a birth of Alexander Fraser born 1875 to 1882 you will find him. His birth certificate will also give you a place and date to look for his parents' marriage.

The online IGI gives three children to parents John Fraser and Mary McPherson.

ISABELLA FRASER - Birth: 22 OCT 1869 Kilmore And Kilbride, Argyll
DONALD FRASER - Birth: 28 AUG 1871 Urquhart, Inverness-shire
JAMES FRASER - Birth: 29 APR 1874 Urquhart, Inverness-shire

You may also wish to download their birth certficates from ScotlandsPeople. I'll make an educated guess that Kilmore and Kilbride (Oban and the surrounding area) will be where her parents lived. It was very common for the first child to be born at the mother's parents' house.

All the best,

AndrewP
