HI: I am interested on information about the Fisher family from Greenhill. William was born 1781 and died before 1851. He married Marion Slimman 1800, Wiston Roberton.
I have looked on the Internet for information on Greenhill- population etc but no luck. I know from William onward but would like to go backward.
How big a place was Greenhill? I ask because when I research a small town with only a few hundred people - it seems only one of them is mine! Even when I communicate with others researching the same name from this same small town- we have no connections. What are the odds?? Thank you. Donna

Donna,
As far as I am aware, Greenhill is now an area of Coatbridge - don't know if it was a small village at one time but, perhaps the folks at Coatbridge library would be able to help you out. Parish records would be listed under Old Monkland.

Donna,
I may just have entered Numptiedom with my last reply! I was looking too quickly and I think I may have led you down the wrong path...
When I got home I was having doubts about my answer so I chcked on the old maps website and found a very very small place called Greenhills situated somewhat South West of East Kilbride. If you look up www.old-maps.co.uk and on the first screen against where it says co-ordinates, enter 262500 in the first wee box and in the second one put 652500. Click on the thumbnail map of 1935 and away you go!
I am guessing that if you use these co-ordinates on a more recent os map, it will turn up the same result.
Apologies for any inconvenience.
