Searching for further information relating to Margaret McCreadie (b. 13 Nov 1859, Ballantrae), sister of my great grandfather. Their mother was Mary McCREADIE whom, I believe, was christened 25 Feb 1840, Ballantrae. The latest information I have regarding Margaret is from the 1881 Census when she and my great grandfather were residing with their grandmother Margaret at Shellknowe, Ballantrae:
Margaret McCREADIE, Widow, Age 67 Born Girvan (b. c 1814)
Head Domestic Servant
Maggie McCREADIE, Unmarried, Age 22, Born Ballantrae
Grand Daughter, General Servant
William McCREADIE, Unmarried, Age 15, Born Ballantrae
Grand Son, Farm Servant
Any additional information would be gratefully received.
Kindest regards and thanks.

Searching for Margaret McCreadie, b 13 Nov 1859, Ballantrae
Hi Jean and Jim,
Firstly, Jean I hope you won't mind me posting below about Margaret McCREADIE. 8-[
It's just that i know there was no father named on her 1859 BC (and looks likely to remain unknown...)
And that she was brought up as the gr-daur of James McCreadie & Margaret Doak.
--
So Jim, some info; not sure if it's what you expected though....
(if you want it removed, then please just say)
Margaret had 3 illegitimate children; and looks like a Mr Keenan is involved somewhere.
The children have some inconsistencies on their names throughout.
*Jeanie McCREADIE, b. 27 JUN 1887 at Shellknowe (mother Maggie McCREADIE, field labourer)
**Charles Keenan McCREADIE, b. 27 SEP 1889 at Shellknowe (mother Maggie McCREADIE, field labourer)
***James McCREADIE, b. 16 FEB 1892 at Shellknowe (mother Margaret McCREADIE, farm labourer)
Here's Margaret (as Maggie) with the children in 1891 & 1901 (knocked a few years off her age)

Searching for Margaret McCreadie, b 13 Nov 1859, Ballantrae
Hi and MANY thanks folks.
Jack, I suspect it's Mary you remember rather than Margaret - but hey, I could be wrong. I know you put in a mighty effort on my behalf. No need to remove mate; it's not as if they were "kiddy-fiddlers", etc. They were simple, honest, hard-working folk. I'm proud to be descended from these people.
Jean: There were at least two Mary AND Margaret McCreadies in Ballantrae around the same time. Jack will confirm it was almost impossible at one point to tell which pair was which. The McCreadie name is/was not uncommon in Ayrshire but growing up in Saltcoats, I knew of no-one, other than my own family, with the McCreadie name.
However, MORE to chase down now for Margaret Jnr thanks to all your lovely people so far away!
Much appreciated.
Jim
