MacKay, Latheron, CAI, 1787+or-

Post by Jbartok » Sun Jul 01, 2007 1:53 am

Hi All,

Looking for information or cousins of Donald Mackay born in Latheron in 1787.

He served with the 92nd Highlanders in the Napoleonic Peninsular war, including Waterloo and then became a Chelsea pensioner on his discharge in 1816 according the National Archives. Just waiting for his Pension Records to arrive for more information.

He died at Latheron on 25 November 1853 (Source: www.graven-images.org.uk )

He married Elizabeth McDonald in 1825. She was the daughter of Donald McDonald & Barbara Gunn.

There are 4 known children:
Barbara 1826
Alexander 1829
Christina 4 Jun 1832
Margaret 24 Mar 1836

Alexander is listed as a Master Tailor at Lybster on several documents. He married Mary Brown and had one known child to her, James Brown Mackay born 1829 in Latheron. Are there any trade directories or similar for Lybster or Latheron? The 1861 Census lists him as a 'Tailor employing 2 men'.

Any cousins or other infromation would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers
James

A very Warm Welcome to TalkingScot.
There may well be some cousins for you to find here but failing that what info are you looking for? There are some useful links in the Sources above.
My starting point would be Freecen& Family Search & then I would got to ScotlandsPeople to confirm what I had found.Seems you have looked at 1841/51 Censuses. Are you interested/aware of what happened to the daughters or are you going down the male line only?
