Post by robertferguson195 » Tue Jul 03, 2007 5:43 pm

Looking for any descendants of William Ferguson and his wife Janet Lyle both born abt 1787 Paisley, Renfrewshire...I am descended from His son William and Grandson William born about 1850 in Paisley, this William emigrated to the USA in abt 1876. Willing to share info.

Also looking for Descendants of Robert Ferguson born circa 1830 in Paisley, Renfrewshire, he married Jane Paton and emigrated to the USA in abt 1865..think we may be related.

Hi thanks for your note, we are looking both for descendants and anceestors Our oldest known ancestor is William Ferguson, hand loom weaver in Paisley, his birth about 1787,in Paisley, we think was assumed from scottish census reports. I believe he was born somewhere else but can find no records on his parentage...we know he married Janet Lyle in 1808 In High Church Paisley, their first daughter Elizabeth was born in High Church in 1809. The rest of their children were born in Abbey, Paisley and we know per the census he was living with his son William (my grandfather 2x) a shoemaker at #2 Ferguslie in 1851, don't know when he died, or where buried, most interested in his parentage. We are also trying to trace the lives of his children all born in Abbey except daughter Eliz. mentioned above...they were Mary, b. 1813, James b. 1820, Margaret, b. 1825, Robert b. 1827 and John b 1830, again all these were born in Abbey..we lose Janet Lyle after the last child is born in 1830, there is no mention of her.My direct line is thru the son , above, William b 1819, shoemaker, died in a lunatic asylum<Paisley in 1860, he married Agnes Hunter of Paisley..more next post.

Fergusons in Paisley

continuation.
My direct line runs thru the Williams..William born 1819, abbey, married Agnes Hunter in Abbey, they had a son William born 1850, he married Sarah Glasgow and in 1876 they emigrated to Philadelphia, Pa. USA. Their son Charles was my grandfather. I believe that William(b. 1787) son Robert b. 1827, Abbey, became a baker, married Jane Paton (banns posted in Abbey and Greenock West) and emigrated to the USA abt 1865, our family had close ties with this family thru the 1930s in the USA...we'd like to verify if family tie exists. We'd also like info on our Glasgow family line..we know Sarah's brother Charles was a coachbuilder in Paisley and he died there in the 1930s. Of course if we could find we still have family in Scotland we'd like to say hello. We've been told by familytree dna and the Ferguson dna study group that our paternal line is R1a and therefore of norse descent, it would be awesome (although unlikely) if we could trace our roots back to that connection to see where we became Fergusons, if you will. All help will be appreciated and any info I have will be made available to tohers it maight affect.
