You won't believe it but I have found a 'Sylvia' of Genforum.com who posted a message about my Gt Grandfather's family. Unfortunately the message was posted in 2001.
My Gt,gt,grandfather was a fisherman/sailor who was killed in a train accident 1850-1862. His cousin took the house and his chn walked to England. Ann,William,Alexander (my gt grandfather), and another son. Ann married in 1863 in Hammersmith to a William Francis.
The exciting part is that Alexander named his chn Rose Francis and William Henry as well as Alexander. My Grandmother was named Annie.
Gt grandfather was born Helensburgh, Dunbartonshire 1844-1847 but no sign of a birth.
Does anyone know of a train accident in the 1850-62 period in the area?
Wish me luck in this new connection. Jill

Thanks for your interest, Marilyn.
I search the parish records for Row/Rhu (Helensburgh) and found not one name that fits. I also searched the 1841 census and might have found Alexander McMillan senior as
Alexander MacMillan 60 labourer born out of Dunbartonshire
Sarah " 35 born out of Scotland
J*any " 3 born Dunbartonshire
Ann " 1 born Dunbartonshire.
They are not in another census in Row/Rhu
Because Alexander McMillan born Helensburgh c1847 married a girl in Epsom RC Chappel and because she was baptised after her first born, I wondered if Sarah above was Irish and RC so I asked a researcher to look in the RC Archives in Edinburgh for records and she found nothing.
I need to search the Dunbarton parish records and census next in case the Alexander McMillan death that I found there with Janet McCreath daughter was the right man and wife Sarah died there.
Another trip to Glasgow is indicated but I think my luck ran out.

Hi Jill,
If it is RC births then will not be in OPRs so need to look for RC Church records. They could be held in Glasgow Dociese records but I'll ask in FH section of Library.
Don't know of any accidents but again it might be in the local press or in the Scotsman archives, maybe worth a look.
If you post as much information as you can on a PM I will have a nose through Dumbarton Library for you.
Won't be for a couple of weeks because I will be away from home.
