Hi - can anyone out there help? I have hit a brick wall with my Gt Gt Grandfather - Peter Wilson. I can't find any information on his birth and his parents. He was apparently born in Cairnie by Huntly Aberdeenshire around 1806 (having worked that out from 1841 & 1851 census) He married Isabella Dawson (sometimes spelt Deason) in Huntly in 1827 and they had 8 children between 1828 and 1848. He was a blacksmith and farmer at Ardonald Cairnie. I suspect he died between 1851 and 1855. Have tried Cairnie burials with no success either.
My Gt Grandfather Alexander their son was born in 1840 and became the Prison Governor in Elgin eventually.
Since this is my first post - I am looking forward to the replies!

Hi Leeslie
..and a warm welcome to Talking Scot
Looking at his children's names are there any clues there as to the possible names of his parents using the Scottish naming pattern?
Sometimes in cases where a birth has proved difficult to find, this can help locate likely couples who can then be investigated further and proved or disproved as parents. Also trying to locate and find out about any siblings who may have survived past 1855, giving more info at death than your main "quarry" can sometimes be fruitful.
Using something like the 1841 census, free on freecen, or by working through the microfilms to gain an idea of the number of people in the area with that surname can help put together family groups and a greater understanding of those of that surname in the area - although I reckon Wilson is not going to be the easiest to work with there - probably quite a few about!
You have the name of the farm - it may have been a family concern, perhaps it was owned by him and had been owned by family before that which might be an area to investigate.
Best wishes
