Austin McDonald

Post by John Bird » Thu Jul 26, 2007 8:53 am

Hi
I am trying to find the date of death of Austin McDonald born about 1785 in Invernesshire. He as in the Parish of Kilmonivaig Invernesshire at the time of the 1861 census living with his son and daughter-in-law and their family. The census said he was aged 76.

I cannot locate his death certificate on ScotlandsPeople website nor can I find him in 1871 census. He had earlier emigrated to Australia but returned to England possibly in the early 1850s.

Any assistance in tracing Austin's date of death would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

Hi John

You said
returned to England possibly in the early 1850s.
If he returned to England he will not appear in the scotlandspeople records. :D

What wildcards have you tried in your searches ? Spelling of names was never a consistent factor even in the first years following Registration.
Trying A*n as a first name eliminates the Alexanders and Andrews and M*c*onald should pick up most variants of McDonald even though there are what seems like millions of them.
There are 23 matches with these wildcards between the ages of 79 & 82 across Scotland. If you suspect he survived, as is possible, it would be worth a credit to view all of them. Taking the age closer would not help since ages could be a year or two out on the census returns.

Happy hunting
