TOPIC APPARENTLY DELETED

Post by q98 » Tue Aug 26, 2008 1:06 pm

It appears my topic "Doctor Robert and Matron Anne (McCreadie) Pirnie" has been deleted and am wondering why as I was not seeking data on living persons. "The topic or post you requested does not exist"

I was careful to state "I should be extremely grateful for any guidance" and "Are there any searchable "medical" sites?".

I am simply interested in searching databases to confirm Robert was a medical practitioner and Anne was a Matron at Bridge of Earn Hospital.
Perhaps I need to be more direct?

Hi Jim,
I see that the post was removed by one of the moderators who was at work and didn't have time to send you a PM right away. You do mention people, by name, who were born after the cut-off dates (the wife, for example, was born later than my mother who has only recently died).

Then that is all you need to say. Does anyone know of any sites that would give information on Doctors and Nurses? I assume you have tried searching for mentions in the newspaper?

All the best,
Sarah

Deletion of a whole post doesn’t to me seem a good idea when the deletion of one or two words can be just as effective. You never know how much effort someone may have spent making up a post and if that’s the only copy a deletion can be a bit of a slap in the face. Perhaps it’s in quarantine.

In fact the offending names of the possible living are in Jim’s new post, they were born after 1907, what happens now?

Search the University of Dundee Catalogue for BRIDGE OF EARN in any text and you’ll find some material listed there. http://134.36.1.31/search/search-all.htm

Maybe there’s something useful in the medical section of this Genuki page http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/Occupations.html#Medical

Is it illegal for doctors to advertise in the UK? If not I think it may have been in the past and that would inhibit the finding of information about them. In some other countries it seems you can pick up online information and reviews and possibly comments about any currently practicing doctor. This sort of thing http://www.steadyhealth.com/find_doctor/

Hope this helps,
Alan

Hi folks and thanks although I must confess to being miffed at the lack of reason for the deletion.

Permit me to explain my thought processes. Personally, I find it perfectly reasonable to believe both parties have passed away. If they were of similar age when married in January 1942, they would be 91 or 92 years old were they both still alive (the lady was born in Jan 1917). Statistically, how many people survive to be 91 or 92 years?

It's all water under the bridge now and there's an end to it hm?

MANY THANKS to all who offered assistance and Alan AGAIN I note - thanks mate!

Hi Jim,

Just to set the record straight your post was not deleted (TS never deletes any member's post) it was moved off the board to an area not seen by our members. As explained by SarahD, the moderator was at work and didn't have the time to "edit" your post or send you a pm at that moment. We're sorry for any confusion that this action may have caused. Feel free to contact any Administrator or Moderator if you need a futher explanation and in the future if you have any doubt about a post, please contact TSAG@talkingscot.com

Jim,

I don't know whether I'm repeating information you already have but the following website might help for tracing doctors:

http://www.bma.org.uk/ap.nsf/Content/LI ... nformation

I have emailed the following for information under the Freedom of Information Act about a doctor and they were very helpful, giving me any addresses and dates they held for the doctor concerned:

jgraves@gmc-uk.org

Good luck,
Meg

Hi again and thank you for the clarification. My admission that I was honestly unaware of "one hundred year" rule demonstrates I have not checked out the site and rules properly

garibaldired (GREAT - assume you have Italian blood?)
Mille grazie. I have noted those websites and will visit tomorrow evening when return from work. You know, that thing we have to do to pay for our genealogy research

Many thanks to ALL who responded.

G'Day Jim,

No problem Mate, honest mistake. I'm praticing my downunder accent. :)

Hope you won't mind if I use this opportunity to remind our members to take a few minutes to read through

Do not mind in the slightest Marilyn. Anything to avoid potential "situations".

Thank you again.
