101 Squadron Bomber Command: Allan H Ross

Update: For the sake of keeping all the information together, I've gone back to my first post and added the information I now have.

Thanks here to Drew for all his help. I have also found someone in Canada who, very generously, looked up her copy of the ORBs for 101 Squadron - her father flew with 101 at roughly the same time as Allan. From this I found that Allan had flown 10 operations beginning 2/12/1943 and ending when he was shot down on 30/31 March 1944. In fact far from Allan being on a "new" crew, he flew all his missions with the same crew - the only one to change from flight to flight was the 8th man (presumed to be the special operator, and German speaking, as this plane was an ABC as described by Alcluith above).

It is also apparent from the ORBs that four of his crew joined up in Edinburgh - two in 2/41 one of whom was Allan and since the other service number is so close, I suspect the second lad was a friend, one in 4/41 and one in 11/43; there are three I can't trace yet.

I will now try to track down where he trained, because he volunteered in Feb 1941, and I doubt it took that long (from 2/41 to 12/43) to train as a bomb aimer - but I may be wrong.
