Hi Maisie,
Ah, Ha! The surname I am looking for begins with B! I hope that means the German ones anyway. I live in hope. [How can I persuade husband that a nice couple of days in London would be a good autumn break - he would think something fishy was going on as we were there earlier in the year!] Still can't find it though. Feeling thick as a plank!

Rach,

The Bs are in WO 344 Boxes 13 (BAAL - BAILEY) to 51 (BUTT - BZOWY). The boxes are split up further but (as far as I could tell) you can't ascertain whether or not a certain individual is in the archive.

Goodhunting!

Rae

Not easy to find on-line, I stumbled across them and then couldn't find them again.

The easiest way is go to Search the Archives then Documents on Line and put Liberated in the key words and 1900-1949 in the date range of Quick Search.

That produces 3 sets of documents, select Military and Defence(276) and there you are. Just hope he's there!

:) Thank you very much Maisie and Roxy. I have pinned the box down at last thanks to your simple instructions. Whether Dad filled in one of those forms or not I can't say but at least I now know what I am looking for!

Rae,

You could always try a more specialized military forum - I find this lot quite helpful:

Thanks to all for the help.
I kept plodding on with the search until I found that the records could be copied separately and I didn't have to go to London after all. The charge was about £3.50 and the 3 pages were sent very promptly. I didn't learn much more from the questionnaire apart from the dates Dad was in the POW camps but I just feel privileged to have the copies.
