update! no luck in the forums, went as far as to hand write many many letters to all McEwen/Mcewans in Glasgow and Yorkshire. These are the areas that I have traced two William's. Had three replies from Glasgow and nothing from Yorshire. Hopefully one day I will find something...

just a thought. There are many free forums out there, try Victorian Wars Forum, they may be able to steer you to a good WW2 forum. It may be only one small insignificant piece of information that puts you on the right track. Follow the shooting trophies, many older ranges still exist today and may have answers and even photos of participants.

thanks Will.... I found my Gf although he has passed some time ago, I was fortunate enough to find his widow, she ws his second wife considerably younger than he when they wed, she has given me so much information on other family members,,... I have an uncle who untill I contacted him thought that he was an only child.. he has resisted the news I gave him which is a shame... he has lost out on a whole family. His loss! but the good news is I found a third cousin who has taken us on board and is as excited as me to have new family lol...
=D>
Just wanted to thank you all for the help you gave and advice, it all helped. although it was not the outcome that I wanted or hoped for, at least I now know.
cheers

Thanks for the feedback Helen. I’m very pleased that you were able to bring this difficult quest to a pretty satisfactory conclusion.
All the best,
