Back again Roscoe,

I’m not sure if this is still operating but you may be able to pick up some free ScotlandsPeople credits here. http://www.ancestralscotland.com/newsletter/

Well I made a big post here and it seems to have gone when I tried to preview it but let me sum it up..........

Currie, thank you and everyone else for your assistance in trying to put together some background on Sapper Rosie.

Events in real life have occupied my attention of late and I had to put my project to the side but hopefully things will be returning to normal soon. Meantime, I posted on the Great War forum and found a little more information but not much. One person there thinks he is the one from Derby England, but I still think he is from Scotland. And we have had little luck determining just what he did in the Great War. The service numbers around him did a variety of things so people in his number group were not just detailed to one unit or type of service. So the search continues.....

The Scottish War Memorial project site is magnificent, a worthy effort to preserve the memory of those many good men who gave their all.

I am going back to work soon and after catching up on some bills that have accumulated during layoff I will be able to invest in some online research and perhaps get a result.

Thanks again everyone!

Best of luck Roscoe.

The Scottish National War Memorial is something really special. I’ve never been there although I’ve taken the tour http://www.snwm.org/website/tour/index.html

All the best,
Alan

Thanks for that Adam, there are some great pictures there.

One of these days I’m hoping there will be a full length video tour of the SNWM that I’ll be able to see.

All the best,
Alan

Hello, I've returned to report success and thank everyone but especially Currie for their assistance.

Thomas Rosie was born in 1885 on Flotta in the Orkneys.

Through the link Currie provided I have been in contact with a family member who kindly provided me with information and a photo of Sapper Rosie. He served in the Royal Engineers as a blacksmith, and returned to Flotta after the war and lived to the age of 96.

I cannot express enough my thanks to his family members for providing information and members of this forum for pointing me in the right directions in my fledging attempts at researching Great War soldiers.

This has been an enlightening experience and I will no doubt return to Talking Scot again.

As always, remembering and honouring the service of every man who served in the Great War is of utmost importance.

Lest we forget.

Best wishes,

Currie
