I wasnt long out of bed.

I thought you meant the records as a hole, which I am sure it is around 30%. Also I meant the Royal Scots Fusiliers.
From WO363
"In September 1940, as the result of a fire caused by an incendiary bomb at the War Office Record Store in Arnside Street, London, approximately two thirds of 6.5 million soldiers' documents for the First World War were destroyed. Those records which survived were mostly charred or water damaged and unfit for consultation and became known as the 'burnt documents'."

Anyhow, I think we can agree that there is a minority rather than majority of records searchable. And, of the burnt records a great many are not easy to read, or are unclear when printed.
I visited the museum in Sauchiehall Street over a year ago and it was sad to hear of the fire which destroyed/damaged so many documents, so I never found very much, that's why I ended up visiting TNA a short time ago, and I am extemely glad I did, as I would never have known that my grandad served previously to WW1, and also with a different regiment as a regular soldier in the Boer War.

I have heard that some of the burnt records are so badly damaged that sometimes you cant place a certain piece of record with a name.
I wish I could get to the NA and search through the records but as far as I know none of my ancestors served prior to the Great War. Although their was one but its suspicious and he probably lied or didnt know about his father.

The person I spoke to did say they have a small collection of photos of the 1st and 2nd battalions, but they are unamed. If you know what your ancestor looked like then you may have a chance in finding him
.
Thanks again ...
Pandabean - I will get in touch with the RSF Museum regarding the photos. Unfortunately, I don't really know what my soldier looked like, but I do have a photo of his older 1/2 brother. So, I suppose there is always some remote chance of a resemblance.
Cheers !
