Re: How would i get this info?
see the next of kin it looks like walter allison and he has put down as the relationship as being father but thenit is scored out and something s underneath it, can you make it out, and the two medals i looked up seem to be the most common medal given out so i will get the copies of the medals on ebay lol. for No 69065 i have tried to re draft it:

On his attestation record on the rigth topside it says what corps he was in it says 2/4th Camerons. so now he is in the 2/4th the 6th and the 8th camerons, could this be right or is it just the same battalion. like 2/4th comes out of the 6th or 8th battalion and does that also mean that once he was released as POW he was still in service in 1919 and he was then in the royalarmy service corps in glasgow, as one of the records say govan park?

Re: How would i get this info?
Hi Gary,
He has scored out the father's first name, Walter, and this has been replaced by Mrs; and hence the relationship has been changed from father to mother.
It says at the top of the last column that A36 and B213 are the Army forms from which the information on that form had been transferred from.
10/3/17 . . . ---- . . . To Hospl . . . Field . . . 27/2/17 . . . B213
26/8/17 . . . ---- . . . Wd & Missing? . . . . -------- . . . Memo [Wd - wounded?]
Officially accepted as Prisioner of war in
Germany or in occupied territory. Place
of internment. Reg'd at Lionburg Camp
not yet reported. O.C from Soldier ???
In November 1919 he appears to have been transferred from Devonport to Kinross where he was demobilised.
There are still other bits that I cannot make out what is written.
All the best,
AndrewP

Re: How would i get this info?
Hello Gary,
This page on the Long Long Trail site lists all the WW1 battalions of the Cameron Highlanders and has a short history of each. http://www.1914-1918.net/cameron.htm
2/4th Battalion
Formed at Inverness in September 1914 as a second line battalion.
January 1915 : attached to 2nd Seaforth & Cameron Highlanders Brigade, 2nd Highland Division. Moved to Fort George in April 1915 and Blair Atholl in July, going to Aberfeldy in October 1915.
October 1915 : formation became 191st Brigade in 64th (2nd Highland) Division.
Was called No 3 Battalion between November 1915 and January 1916.
Moved to Norwich in March 1916, going on to Blickling Park (June), Kelling (July) and Cromer (October 1916). Disbanded in February 1918.
It therefore seems that it never left the UK, and for your ancestor, was just a stepping-stone to another battalion elsewhere. The 8th Battalion also appears to have stayed in the UK
It looks like your ancestor arrived in France as a reinforcement and joined Infantry Base Depot 19 at Etaples on 31 July 1916 and was then transferred to the 6th Camerons, if you’re sure that’s what it says.
If he was in fact in the 6th and was wounded on 31 July 1917 then it was probably at the third battle of Ypres (Passchendaele) on the first day of the battle. This page is mainly to do with tank attacks on that day and there’s a bit relating to tank C13 about half way down https://sites.google.com/site/landships ... 31july1917
"Assisted advance of 6th Cameron Highlanders against Beck House. Attacked with infantry and "Carstairs" from Beck House to junction of Zonnebeke Stream and Black line where tank bellied. Unditched with "Carstairs” assistance. Rallied on 1st. In action for 16 and a half hours."
Here’s a fuller account of the first day of the battle, as usual it produced huge numbers of casualties. http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~dccfa ... 0Ypres.htm
All the best,
Alan

Re: How would i get this info?
Hello Gary,
I think these reports in the Scotsman are for your fellow and that he has been given a new number. The only Allison 4377 that comes up in a search is someone in the Seaforths who was killed. The town shown in the lists of casualties is the home of the next-of-kin, and all are privates except when otherwise shown. He’s just one casualty in a list of many.
The Scotsman, 06 Sep 1917: 8.
RANK AND FILE: SCOTTISH LOSSES
WOUNDED.
CAMERON HIGHRS.—Allison, 40056, A. M. (Glasgow);
The Scotsman, 25 Sep 1917: 7.
PREVIOUSLY REPORTED WOUNDED, NOW REPORTED WOUNDED AND MISSING.
CAMERON HIGHLANDERS.—Allison, 40056, A. M. (Glasgow);
The Scotsman, 20 Oct 1917: 10.
RANK AND FILE: SCOTTISH LOSSES
PRISONERS OF WAR.
Previously reported missing, now reported prisoners of war in German hands.
CAMERON HRS.—Allison, 40056, A. M. (Glasgow);
The same lists are in the Glasgow Herald, although I can’t see the full one for 6 September. The images aren’t very good. The one for 25 September is in column 4, page 7. The one for 20 October is in last column, page 7. http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=G ... page&hl=en
Here’s a story of a soldier who was with the 6th Cameron Highlanders in 1917.
http://www.hellfire-corner.demon.co.uk/cavalry.htm
There was a “War history of the 6th (Service) Battalion Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders” published in 1934. It appears to be rare and very expensive. The history of the 7th, which was published in 1922, has been digitised and is on the Internet Archive so with a bit of luck it will turn up there eventually. http://www.archive.org/stream/historyof ... 0/mode/2up
In my travels I also found this.
The Scotsman, 22 Sep 1917: 10.
RANK AND FILE: SCOTTISH LOSSES
ROYAL NAVAL DIVISION.
KILLED.—Allison, J., A.B., R.N.V.R.;
Hope that’s useful,
Alan

Hello Gary,
I had a good look in the Scotsman but couldn’t find a W. Devine wounded who could possibly fit the bill. He’ll be there somewhere for sure but he’s hiding and may not be findable. If you’d like to set out all the information about him, just that which has been passed down through the family and that’s to do with WW1, I’ll have another look if it narrows it down a bit.
All the best,
Alan
