Hi,

I've uploaded the WW1 KIA record for Alexander Bowes McKenna but can't read the info on his service # nor where he was buried.

Hi Denis,

I think I would be sending a contact form to SP for this one to ask for a better copy. The missing details have been cut off.

I didn’t see any mention of Alexander on here http://www.cwgc.org/debt_of_honour.asp?menuid=14 or http://www.britishwargraves.org.uk/

Regards,
Anne H

Hi Dennis,

I think this is the one you are seeking on the CWGC website.

Name: McKENNA
Initials: A
Nationality: United Kingdom
Rank: Private
Regiment/Service: Royal Scots
Unit Text: 2nd Bn.
Date of Death: 24/01/1917
probably should be 24/10/1917
Service No: 34681
Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead
Grave/Memorial Reference: XXI. C. 14.
Cemetery: ETAPLES MILITARY CEMETERY

But until you get a better image of it from SP or GROS which shows his service number, that will be difficult to prove. The writing in the left-most column may well say Pte. 2nd Bn. The writing in the title section probably says Royal Scots Regiment

He should also show on the Scottish National War Memorial website, but that site is not working just now.

All the best,

AndrewP

Hi Dennis,

Now the SNWM website is up and running again, it shows the soldier above to be Andrew McKenna.

However they have this one who is the one you are seeking.

Surname McKENNA
Firstname Alexander
Service Number 41592
Date Death 22/10/1917
Place of birth Bridgeton Lanarkshire
Other 16th Bn. formerly 32536 R. Scot. Fus.
SNWM roll THE ROYAL SCOTS (LOTHIAN REGIMENT)
Rank Pte
Theatre of death F.& F.

On referring that information back to the CWGC website, you get the following information.

Name: McKENNA, BOWES ALEXANDER
Initials: B A
Nationality: United Kingdom
Rank: Private
Regiment/Service: Royal Scots
Unit Text: 16th Bn.
Age: 19
Date of Death: 22/10/1917
Service No: 41592
Additional information: Son of Mrs. Margaret Bowes McKenna, of 14, Monteith St., Bridgeton, Glasgow.
Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead
Grave/Memorial Reference: Panel 11 to 14 and 162.
Memorial: TYNE COT MEMORIAL

When I looked at the CWGC website earlier, I was looking under McKenna, A. They have him as McKenna, B. A..

All the best,

AndrewP
