WW1 Poems

Post by Rach » Sat Nov 08, 2008 2:25 pm

Have just found this in the newspaper.
Oxford University project - poems written during WW1 'by the likes of Wilfred Owen, Robert Graves and Isaac Rosenberg', crumpled and with the mud still on them, can be viewed online from Tuesday at www.oucs.ox.ac/ww1lit
Should be very interesting and poignant reading.

Hi Annie,
When I said Tuesday I should have said 'next Tuesday' the 11th Nov, sorry.

Looks like I just missed some of the war poets work on display yesterday, only two miles from me.

I attended college (Napier College as it was in those days) in Craiglockhart, the former war hospital, but these were never on display then, about 25 years ago. It was a grand old building - originally a hydropathic, then a war hospital, then a convent and Catholic teacher training college, then Napier College (later Polytechnic, and finally University).

All the best,

Hi Andrew
Sorry to hear that you missed that opportunity toi see the original works. Maybe it will be repeated next year with any luck.

I went to see the play that is mentioned, "Not About Heroes, by Stephen MacDonald last year, but not by the same theatre company. It was well worth seeing but at the time I had not realised that the real life meeting between Sasoon and Owen was at Napier.

Best wishes
Lesley

What a pity that you missed it, Andrew. Seeing things in the raw, as it were, brings out feelings that other mediums can't replicate.
I always seem to find out things when it is too late too. I haven't seen the production by the Rowan Tree theatre company but have seen other plays by them and they have been really good. I see that it is coming to Peebles on the 14th Nov but I have other things on.
