RNVR records for ancestor.....
I've found a 1917 marriage certificate for my great grandfather, which states that, as well as being a house factor, he was a lieutenant in the RNVR. He lived in Paisley and died in 1923. I was wondering if anyone would know where I could enquire about records about him in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve, thanks
May the force be with you

Exactly the same as for the Royal Navy, - see http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/fami ... y/rnvr.htm
Following RN service, if the person was in a maritime occupation, they became a member of the Royal Naval Reserve (RNR); if not then they became a member of the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve (RNVR) - the "Wavy Navy", - as the cuff stripes for officers were exactly that, - wavy, - as opposed to the straight lines of the RN and plaited stripes of the RNR.
Some at least of his service record may now be at TNA at Kew, otherwise you may need to contact The Veterans Agency on http://www.veteransagency.mod.uk/servic ... ecs_rn.htm
