Help needed please?
I have a mysterious relative who keeps changing his name! I have tracked him down to Plymouth in 1870 where is occupation was a Gunner, Royal Artillery, Citadel, Plymouth. He was born (I think?) in 1842 in Kirkcaldy Fife.
He used the names John Burns Grant and Nathaniel Burns.
Does anyone know where I should start looking for any military records. enlisting information etc that he would have?
Thanks so much.

Hi Sweetpea
Probably the National Archives would be the place to start:
http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/cata ... fletID=359
There is also a Royal Artillery Museum web site, but they do not hold soldiers' records.

best wishes

see National Archives site, above. For Service up to the end of World War I
All surviving records up to discharge in 1918 are now available to the public and can be seen by written appointment at the Public Record Office at Kew.
best wishes
