Hello Everyone :P

Hope your research is going well!! My Great -Grandfather Henry Hill is shown in the 1861 census as a Corporal stationed at Fort Leith. How would i go about finding out which unit he was serving with and also obtain his service number? Any suggestions.

Hope this is still relevant and of use to you. Leith Fort was originally built in 1779 to defend the harbour against the ships of Paul Jones, the well-known privateer. It afterwards became a large military barracks and the headquarters of the Royal Artillery in Scotland, I think, at the time period you are looking at.

Really hate getting popups that take control of the page I'm viewing.

Were you aware of the "Error Scanning" popup Andy, or was I just unlucky?

I knew there were pop ups but I didnt know how bad they were as I have a pop up blocker. I thought it would have just been a simple popup I hope it didnt cause any problems. It is the only site as far as I am aware of that has this information on it. :oops:

I have a popup blocker as well, but this one got through for some reason. It was that fact that it not only refused to close when "No" was clicked (as many of these are set to ignore that anyway), but it also transferred me instead to its own page and tried to scan my computer that really annoyed me.

Luckily, my broadband connection is right next to me and I simply pulled the plug!
