Re: Glasgow Home For Deserted Mothers
Hello Ian, and welcome to TalkingScot.
In November 1974 the Glasgow Corporation Social Work Department was about to reopen a girl’s hostel at 123 West Princes street. It was to care for up to 16 girls between the ages of 14 and 18 admitted for emotional or social reasons. https://www.google.com.au/webhp?complet ... 80&bih=840
It appears the Corporation of Glasgow had recently acquired the hostel from the Women's Help Committee. The Glasgow Home for Deserted Mothers had transferred their assets and property to the Committee in 1968. Some Women's Help Committee records are held by Glasgow University Archives but seem to be only of a financial nature. http://archiveshub.ac.uk/data/gb0248dc260
The NAS has some child care files 1963 to 1970 but access is restricted. “Women's Help Committee Hostel, 123 West Prince's Street, Glasgow: inspector's reports etc” Search here for ‘help committee’ as a phrase. http://www.nas.gov.uk/onlineCatalogue/
A 1965 Glasgow Herald article you may find interesting.

Hope that helps,
Alan
