Charles Kelly.....

Post by Bertha » Sat Apr 01, 2006 4:50 pm

Can anyone find out anything for me regarding the following.
Charles Kelly who diied City Poorhouse Glasgow in June 1855 aged I think it says 61. No wife or parents names given but death was registered by John Whyte Govenor of the Poorhouse.
Coincidence maybe but my Charles Kelly's wife's surname was Whyte!
Mu 3rd cousin in Aus found this death and we are clutching at straws thinking he's ours as our Kelly family lived in Sth Leith but maybe Charles moved for work.
One other thing, is the Mitchell open on Saturdays?
Thanks in anticipation

Hi Bertha
In answer to:
is the Mitchell open on Saturdays?
The answer would seem to be YES - see opening hours here:

Thanks Lesley.
Pity the cup semi wasn't today, I'd have been there.
Must work on hubby for another day in Glesca, maybe if his team reaches the cup final!

Bertha,

The Mitchell is open on Saturdays till 5pm but it's always best to phone first to make sure there is someone on duty to produce your request.

Should I phone and make my request first to expedite matters?

Hello Bertha,

After household discussions and googling I've decided - you are coming to Glasgow on 13th May to visit The Mitchell and your other half will go to Hamden and watch his team, Hearts (Jam Tarts) play in the Cup Final!!
Ah've no' goat a clue aboot fitba'!!

Although the library is open on a Saturday sometimes there is no one to bring the books to the archive room.
If you know the reference number they will look it out the day or so before and it will be waiting for you when you arrive.

If you want I could look at the index and give you the reference.

Awra best,
Annette M

Hi Annette and Bertha,
I've been checking to see if i'd forgotten about anything i'd written down today - i had!
Could only see one possible application for Charles.
--
D-HEW. 10 / 3 / 4. Page 172. Charles KELLY (49), born Ireland. Applied 1853.
--
All others of the same name were after 1855.
I hope it is your Charles, but if so there's no guarantee that it will have a lot of info.
It really is just pot-luck with what's written on the pages.
Jack

Thanks Jack for taking the time.
I will contact the Mitchell before I go.
You got it right about the fitba, I'm sure my time will be better spent indoors doing some reading.
