Irish Roll?.....

Post by AngelaS » Wed May 10, 2006 8:32 pm

I found the poor relief info for my great-grnadmother in the Mitchell Library. it was fairly straightforward except for one thing. There was an entry saying she was transferred to teh Irish roll in 1916. I had never heard of this before. Was there a separate register for those born in Ireland? Thanks

This probably means that the costs of her poor relief support in Glasgow were debited to somewhere in Ireland, with the outside chance that she was later shipped back to the Irish parish involved ..........

Thank you. She had family still living in Ireland so it is possible she went back for a time.
