Hello Sarah,

I'm sorry but The Mitchell don't have any records of the The House of Refuge for Boys at the above address in the archives (unless you want to see a plan of the drains!!).

It might be worth contacting the University archives refering to the Special Collections Bh12-y.14 noted at the Glasgow Story site. They are usually very helpful.

Just heard back from the University Archives. Doesn't help me, but I'll post the info in case it is useful to someone else.
Thank you for your enquiry. It has been forwarded to the Special Collection department by the Archives department. While we do hold some records and reports of the House of Refuge for Boys, I am afraid that our earliest document is an annual report from the year 1854. As you can see it would be unlikely we would find any mention of your John Giles in these documents. I am sorry we could not be of more help in this matter, if you have any further enquiries please do not hesitate to get in touch.
