Possibly you may wish to hold back on reading any more on Dr William Henderson for the time being...! lol
Good luck!

Hi,
I received the following information today:
A George K. Paterson graduated MB,CM 1882. He first matriculated in the Faculty of Medicine in 1877 when he was 16 years old.
Would he have been a member of any medical societies that would have a bit more of a bio?

Hi Dennis,
Have you tried to find an obituary for him in a local newspaper in 1942? Also, if you try for his will, there may be bequests left to organisations that he was connected to etc. You could also maybe try the Royal College of Physicians.
I was fortunate with my doctor - not only was he a physician, he was a kirk elder in Perth as well. When he died, there was a glowing tribute some three pages in length for him in the Kirk session minutes, and a couple of obituaries for him in the local papers, which revealed he had set up a mortification fund for the poor, and was also an author.

Hi Chris,
The 1901 census has him living at the same place that was his usual residence when he died; 19 Albany St. Edinburgh. He had a live-in cook & housekeeper.

I wanted the sort of information Dennis asked about but I don't have a record of the organisation I went to because my filing system isn't good and my archiving is worse. My memory isn't brilliant either.
However, If you go to
http://www.rcpsg.ac.uk/ I think they will help you.
If this is the same site I used a couple of years ago you will find them very helpfull. They were so good to me I put them on my Christmas card list.
In my case they forwarded biographical details, obituaries etc within a couple of days. If this link doesn't work for you, let me know because I happen to know that there is a place in Glasgow somewhere who hold records of every Scottish Doctor who ever lived.
I just don't know where right now but with help it can be found.

Hi Malcolm,
I would appreciate knowing where those records of every Scottish doctor are maintained.
Thank you. dennis

Well ok, perhaps every Scottish Doctor who ever lived is overdoing it slightly because I read somewhere that early records were lost or destroyed.
However, there is an archive rescource in Glasgow which can provide free of charge, the sort of information you want. I suggest therefore that you wing an e-mail to
caroline.torres@rcpsg.ac.uk This was the lady who was so helpful to me, the infomation about whom was given to me By Judy Philip in Australia two years ago and again last night.
Hoping this helps

Thanks Malcolm. I've just tried but the e-mail address no longer seems to be valid. I googled Caroline and found that she works for the Royal College of Physicians for Glasgow, but it seems that the archive deals only with doctors in the west of Scotland and Glasgow. Queries can now be made online at

Cheers
