When I was at the Mitchell at Easter during my research I got chatting to a lady who was researching her Father's Police Record-early 1920's.
She was thrilled at what she had found & showed me the Registers.
The info was fairly extensive.Names of parents & next of kin,birth-place,previous employment including WW1 service-regiment & off course his Police record. His pay rates, placements. The handwriting was exquisite & so clear-pity he hadn't been the local Registrar.
He was bilingual-Gaelic & English so off course was stationed at Partick & Maryhill-a requirement which police officers had to have up until the 1930 I am led to believe. The population had a large Gaelic speaking populace.
A much later period than you are researching but if he had a pension I am sure there must have been records at some point.

Ive got a police record for my Great Great Grandfather who served with Partick Police, the records are excellent and actually gave me his birthdate in 1854 which i never had.
They give immense detail into the money and lives these people lead, it seem mine liked a wee drink or two and has been christianed as the Drunken Policeman!!!
Also he was from Bannockburn and didnt speak Gaelic so i dont think that being Bilingual was a necessity
