Liquor Dealer RT

Post by Helen64 » Tue Jan 15, 2008 2:10 pm

Hello to you all,

Would someone be good enough to tell me what a Liquor Dealer RT is? i now it involves selling booze but i have found a rellie in wyoming who is a Liquor Dealer RT in wyoming.

He appears to be well of as the census of wyoming in 1870 there is only four people who have any kind of personal money. Would there be a record of dealers in 1870 showing any kind of liquor licence etc..... or is that a daft idea?

Thanks

Helen

Hi Helen:

Does the 1870 US census have an index of occupations?

I'd guess that it would mean he was a 'Revenue Taxman' and probably ensured that those buying and selling it, provided the proper taxes to the Revenue Department or US Treasury.

Moonshiners were always hiding from the 'revenuers' in all the old movies.

Hello Helen,

If “Revenue Taxman” isn’t it could it be “Registered Trader”?

Liquor licensing is probably a State matter so Wyoming State Archives might know
http://micrographics.state.wy.us/index.aspx

If you Google for "liquor license records""wyoming" you’ll get a couple of PDF file results relating to retention periods and, presumably, old records 1869-1921 held by Wyoming State Archives. I don’t know whether these relate to the type of licence your fellow would have required.

Hope this helps,
Alan
