Occupation.....

Post by Scozzie » Sun Aug 07, 2005 11:12 am

I found a family member with the occupation of "Thibet cutter" on the 1841 census. Most of that branch of the family were involved in the weaving trade. I can't find "thibet" anywhere - does anyone have any idea what it means? My best guess is a cloth cutter.

This might be thibet that you are asking about:

thibet: a woollen stuff generally printed in colours; a heavy goat's hair fabric used instead of fur.
also Tibet cloth

The above definition comes under the heading of Tibet (the country). Quoted from Chambers English Dictionary.

All the best,
