Does anyone know if there are any trade directories such as Kelly's searchable on-line?
My relative John Hepburn Ramsay (some of you on the board will know him well!) was an Undertaker in Edinburgh until he died in 1899. According to the 1901 census his wife Elizabeth took over the business.
I'd love to find out more information and thought that she might be listed in a trade directory.

The situation is one that develops from day to day, quite literally, so that my response would be to recommend you to have a richt guid www search with Google and other search engines (and please keep us all posted !)
Given the business concerned I'd be most surprised if there aren't trade directory references. Try Slater's rather than Kelly's, as well as an email to (City of) Edinburgh Council library, - see the Libraries section on this site, - for advice on relevant trade directory listings ........
