Crack man.....

Post by caraid » Tue Jan 17, 2006 7:50 pm

Hi Folks
Hope you are all well. I've been havin a wee break, but sadly the brickwalls are still there.
Just wondering if anyone has heard of this occupation, its from the 1861 census, South Leith. David Cormack, born Bower & Ann m.s. Sutherland his wife were living here and his occupation is given as crackman. Anyone heard of this job before, couldn't find it on any of the old occupations sites.

In the 1871 census, David Cormack was a " collector of city customs". I have never hears the term crackman but it may have something to do with customs.
thanks for replying

We're getting close to my favourite Bill Connolly one-liner...........

Glasgow Central station main concourse after (pub) closing time one Saturday night.

Wee drunk nyaff walks up to you and says "Haw there, whit's yer name, Jimmy?" !
