Robert Munro, Sheriff Officer.....

Post by maddymoss » Fri Mar 17, 2006 1:53 pm

Hi,

My researches have come to a halt with Robert Munro, Sheriff Officer in Alloa, Clackmannanshire. He married Catherine Donaldson in Alloa in Jan. 1817. They had at least three children: Isabel, William and John. John married Jane Maria Morris or Morrison in Alloa in 1843. I have been unable to find any further information on Robert or Catherine
Were any details or records kept of Sheriff Officers at this time?

Jim

Hello Jim,

Have you looked at the death entry in Clackmannan 1857 of a Robert Munro born 1798 to see if this is your Robert?

Hi Annette,

I'd already checked out this Robert Munro. Unfortunately he's the wrong man. He married a Jane Kirk who died in 1874. I also have this couple in the 1851 census. I can find no trace of my Robert Munro or Catherine Donaldson in the 1851 census or a death certificate for either. I can only assume both died pre 1851. The search goes on!

Regards,
Jim

I've also got a sheriff officer in my family and I was wondering what exactly they did and what qualifications if any were required.

Wow, thanks Liz! Not at all what I imagined (guess I've watched too many wild west films!)
