Stirling Old Churchyard location

Post by Liverbird75 » Wed Sep 13, 2017 2:03 pm

My 5th Gt Grandfather; John Robertson was buried in 1818 at Stirling Old Churchyard Liar 39, which he purchased.

Each time I google Stirling Old Churchyard, the results come back with lots of choices but not what I'm looking for. Does anyone know the location, did it change names etc?
Thank you :)

I would have thought that it would be the one up beside the castle?
Between there and the Kirk of the Holy Rude, its quite a large one and very interesting.

It seems to have different names for its different sections, Valley. Kirkyard, Marrs wark etc.

If you look at an aerial or bird's eye view (Google/Bing Maps), the Kirkyard is directly 'behind' the Church or looking at the view, to the left.

Marr Cemetery sits 'above' this and is opposite Argyll's Lodging.

Valley Cemetery sits to the left of both of them.

Snowdon Cemetery is to the far left of the view, to the left/under the Esplanade.

If that's not enough, there's also Ballengeich Cemetery at the other side of the castle on Ballengeich Pass/Upper Castlehill.
