1951 Census

Post by Dennis » Sat Oct 26, 2013 1:46 am

As far as I know the 1st census I should be on is the 1951. How can I get a look at it, or get a copy of my particulars on it?

thanks. dennis

Hi Dennis,

The censuses are all closed for 100 years; so not until 2051, when you will be age 100+.

All the best,

I'd thought that they were only closed for putting on the net, but maybe not closed for personal access or an actual researcher ](*,)

The Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 specifically excluded the Census returns from disclosure confirming the 100 year "rule" which is why in Scotland we had to wait for the 1911 census after it was released in England.

Hi Dennis,

Births, marriages and deaths are available in the ScotlandsPeople Centre almost up to date, but not the censuses, for which the 100 year closure applies.

All the best,

So I'll be 103 if it appears in the 1st half of 2051. Should have the mortgage paid off by then :) I was interested to see if I was still known by my birth name, was born in '47, my mom married in '49 and I was adopted in '53. I don't even know where I lived in Glasgow, just that I was born in Homeland.

thanks. dennis

Greetings.

Here in NZ I would go to School records, and those web sites sharing such info, like those specializing in posting old class photographs. Often the students therein are named by their class mate/s submitting the photos.
