Re: Divorce Records
Hi jjlmary,
The short answer is "no".
The divorce records held by the General Register Office for Scotland are subject to the normal ScotlandsPeople terms and charges. For pre-1984, they are in the Register of Corrected Entries, with reference to the marriage records. For 1984 onwards, they are in a register of their own. I would expect that the post-1984 registers would come under the same restrictions as marriage records, so will not be available online until 75 years after the event, so none will be online until 2059 by the current legislation. The pre-1984 divorces, as they are RCE entries tied to the relevant marriage, are available to view online at the usual RCE charge of 2 credits on ScotlandsPeople if the marriage took place more than 75 years ago (even if the divorce was less than 75 years ago - an anomaly to the 75 year closure rule).
If you are able to travel to the ScotlandsPeople Centre (or one of its outposts in Scotland), then the divorce register (1984 onwards) and all of the marriage RCEs for divorces (pre-1984) can be viewed. The cost there is the normal entrance fee to the ScotlandsPeople Centre.
If there are court papers held by the National Archives of Scotland, they can be viewed in General Register House in Edinburgh; or may be available to be sent out to you if you cannot travel there; but there is a cost associated with copying and sending out records to you. See the NAS website for their charges.
All the best,
AndrewP
