REGARDING BOOKS

Post by sheilajim » Sun Sep 09, 2007 8:39 pm

Hi All

Time after time, members have posted books or a book that looked interesting. I have thought that I would like to read these books for myself some time in the future. Too often I have forgotten the names of these books.

I wonder if it is possible to have a place devoted to just books. Members who have read an interesting book, or a not so intersting book could post their opinion or reviewsof a particular book. Other people who have read the book could also add their own reviews. This would help the rest of us to decide whether or not they would like to own the book in question.

Does anyone else think that this would help us in our research?

Regards
Sheila

Hi Sheila,

Good suggestion, thanks for brining it up. We'll put it on our list of discussions and get back to you soon.

Regards
Marilyn

Hi Sheila
Yup - good idea there. Certainly one for serious consideration.

Best wishes
Lesley

Wow!

Can you imagine what a source that could be? I, for one, wouldn't mind having a list of books that might help me in my own research.

Hold on folks before you get too carried away :(

I have started a list for my own local group and pretty quickly realised that the only way to keep tabs on the sheer number of potentially useful titles was to develop a spreadsheet.
We could end up with a huge list with lots of them not fitting into neat subject divisions and needing a permanent librarian to keep control of the list.
It would take up a lot of bandwidth on the site since everybody and their aunty would come to tap into it.
The idea I like. The practicality is a horse of a different colour.

Couldn't such a spreadsheet be placed in the gallery for download? Possibly updated monthly or even quarterly?

I think Sheila is just asking for a spot to post titles of books.

It could be called the "Book Club" forum? Place for folks to chat about this book or that?

Back me up here Sheila

[prod] Is that you volunteering?????

I think a forum area is a good idea, but I take Russell's point on board.

Best wishes

Hi All

Like Marilyn says, something like a Book Club Forum. :)

Something like this: I have just read John Doe's Scottish Towns. I would like to recommend it. The book gives a good history of how the ordinary people in these towns lived in the early 19th century.

Then if someone else read the book, but thought that Jane Doe's book on Scottish towns was better they would recommend that one.

I wasn't thinking of a hugh list of books. Just something that we could search back through when we were looking for a particular book.

Regards
Sheila
