The Rise and Progress of Coatbridge and Surrounding Villages

Post by Anne H » Wed Feb 20, 2008 5:50 pm

This is an excellent little e-book I found on Google. It spans from around the late 1700’s to about 1864, and I’m sure most people would find it an extremely interesting read but will be of special interest to those with a connection to the Coatbridge area, and the mines and iron works, etc., etc., This wee book gives a fantastic insight into the everyday lives of the people and surrounding villages, from the founders and their families, to the ordinary hardworking people of the day giving a look into their social habits as well as the hardships.

(Is there a way to make these links small and go directly to the page?) (Yes - link modified - AndrewP)

It’s the best little book I’ve read on Coatbridge yet. Enjoy!

Hi Anne,

How did you manage to see the book? It looks interesting, but all I can get access to is small snippets of a few lines, as it will only allow me to search within the book, not view it :( .

Best wishes

Hi Brian,

That's funny :? All I did was click on the link and the entire book came up. If you have a problem with it, send me a pm and I'll send it to you in PDF format. You'll certainly enjoy it :)

Regards,
Anne H

problems with ebooks

Is this to do with copyright agreements - the ebooks might only be visible in US?

Hi Marie,

I don't see anything about copyright, or that you can only view it in the USA....I don't think you would be able to download as a PDF document if it were copyright...or would you?

Did you or anyone else try the link and not get the entire book?

Regards,
Anne H

Hi Anne,

I see various listings for this book in Google Books, but preview or snippet view is greyed out in all cases. I see there is a sign in at the top of the page. Were you signed in, and thus able to use these otherwise greyed out functions?

All the best,

AndrewP

Looks like it could be a problem with different countries...? I'm back in the U.S. now and I can download that book no problem-- and I'm not logged in!

Sarah

I’m getting a “no preview view” not even the snippets.
