I've run into a brick wall looking for an OPR birth.
Her name is Agnes McGill;
b. abt 1803/04 - taken from 1851/56 census & her death registration.
Place of birth - Sorn, Ayrshire - taken from 1851 & 1861 census
Marriage - December 7, 1827 to Thomas Goldie in Sorn, Ayrshire
Death - December 4, 1865 Sorn (Catrine) Ayrshire (parents Thomas McGill & Agnes McGhee).
She had 2 brothers that I could find,
William b. July 19, 1797 at St. Quivox & Newton, Ayrshire
John b. March 10, 1799 at Ayr, Ayrshire
both births are from Family Search and it does look as if both are in SP OPR.
If the 2 boys were recorded in the OPR, I wonder why Agnes wasn't?
Thanks for any help.

Re: Agnes McGill's birth
Hi Bob,
A couple of possibilities are that the records at Sorn were not as diligently recorded, or that the relevant page(s) have not survived. Or maybe Agnes was not baptised.
The OPRs can never be considered as a complete set of records, even if the description of that OPR implies that there should be a record.

Re: Agnes McGill's birth
Hi Bob,
I think they also had a daughter Jane who married a John Milliken (and variants) and she was living next door to Thomas and Agnes in 1841. There is no sign of her at the IGI either.
Regards,
Annette

As far as I remember, was it not also the case that some IGI OPR batches recorded only the male births? Have you tried a search on Scotlands People? I've had a quick look though and I'm not seeing anything obvious....

Re: Agnes McGill's birth
Hi Andrew, Annette and Lesley,
Andrew, thanks for that information, must be why I haven't been able to find her birth.
Annette, that is the first I've seen of another daughter (Jane), I'll follow that lead, there just might be something to help.
Lesley, I've also heard/seen that about the OPR births, but this is the first time I've run into it.
Thanks for your help.
