I did find an Alexander Buchanan that was probably born to the couple:

BUCHANAN ALEXANDER father DAVID BUCHANAN/ M 16/04/1808 483/60 115 Kilsyth
No mother's name so not certain, but Kilsyth isn't far from Campsie where most of the other' were born.

Thank you William for finding Janet's birth and death info. I never thought of looking at the uk free bmd for Scottish people
I have e-maid the birth info. Father William Dennistoun ?????? mother is Margaret Brown. Has 2 Witnesses James & ??? Dennistoun.
There is room for other children not found yet. Their daughter from censes Margaret Gray has a w next to her, does it mean widow? Cant find her birth. Her son William Buchanan Gray was born 21 May 1842 / christen 19 Jun 1842 - Father is John Gray.
If David was 90 when he died he was 10 years older than Janet. They certainly rounded DOWN their ages in the census. The map are wonderful. Would 160 acr. be a good size farm in 1851? Winning prizes at the show gives a wonderful look in to their life's. Thank you all :D

I read this OPR entry as:
Dennistoun :: William Dennistoun flesher & Margaret Brown a L.D. Jane bo. 24th. Witn. James and Alexr. Dennistoun.

Translation to modern English:
Dennistoun :: William Dennistoun butcher and Margaret Brown a lawful daughter Jane born 24th July 1785. Witnesses James and Alexander Dennistoun.

The term "lawful" implies that the couple were married. The opposite term for a child born to an unmarried couple is "natural". As this is a church record it may be that unmarried couples were less likely to register their child with the church as they would be told that they were disapproved of producing a child without marrying first. Hence there are no N.D. or N.S. recorded on this page; only L.D. or L.S.

All the best,

AndrewP

First an apology to Wilma for calling her William
And thanks to Andrew for the latest info. :D
The unnamed child 1806 -David was farming at Hunterston. Jean 1812 birth - Farming at Glorat, Campside, then from 1814 to 1822 New Mill, Campsie.
Then David's birth 1826 no info other then Cadder, died at 20 mnt. at Cheryston, Campside. This all have both parents name. So we have a big gap, Looked at your Alexander at Kilsyth 16 Apr 1808 also found a Margaret born 25 May 1810 at Kilsyth. Only fathers name recorded. I think they fit in nice, do you? Makes Margaret a few years older then on the 51 census. A busy 22 years of births :? They seam to move a lot.
