Sorry Mary

Perhaps I worded it badly. I am certainly all for open and honest discussion.

Still wonder how one goes about having a name added to a War Memorial ?

Frances

It might be worth contacting the local authority. I know of someone who did that & they arranged for the name to be added to the memorial (it was a lad who was born & raised in India but had joined the forces at the age of 17 straight from his boarding school) as it was the only place in the UK where he could be remembered. They were happy to do it & asked the family to a special service on Remembrance Sunday. If it's not the l.a. then they are likely to know who cares for the memorial.

Village of Renton

Post by Alcluith » Sun Nov 04, 2007 3:21 pm

In the small village of Renton the local residents did not have all the names on their memorial. The village is going through major development by the Cordale Housing Association and they moved the monument into the centre of the village.
The CHA with local campaigners researched those who were killed in the two Wars and added a plaque beside the monument listing those that were missed off.
Just recently the monument has been updated with all the men killed from the Village.

It is a tribute to all those locals who campaigned to get all remembered.

Hi Drew, good to hear that things can be sorted sometimes. Great to hear of this.
