Hello Jean,
Do you know John's wife's name, date and place of birth?
If he left her with a number of children there may be a poorhouse application which could show his parent's names. I could check if I have the info.
Regards,
Annette M
I've just noticed they left Glasgow.............still it might be worth a check.

Hi Annette
Yes, they had left Glasgow and were living in Broxburn, West Lothian.
She could, of course, have returned there after the event. I haven't, yet, looked for her d.c. A quick look on SP reveals that 2 Eli*a mcAl*st*r died in West Lothian, but none in Uphall/Broxburn
Just in case, his wife's name was Eliza Jane m.s. Bell. Year of birth 1865/1866 (taken from census ages) born Ireland.
Thanks for your trouble.
Best wishes
Jean

I have a bit more information now.
I have been in touch with my GR contact and she says she found one of John's sons, David, in New Jersey married to a Helena.
She didn't elaborate on this and I can't ask her for any further details at the moment as she informed me that her father passed away a couple of weeks ago and family history has gone on the back burner for the moment.
Best wishes

Hi Jean,
Here he is in 1930. It shows clearly where they went first! And perhaps his father stayed in Canada.
Kearny, Hudson County, New Jersey
McAllister, David, Head, 30, born in Scotland, came to U.S. in 1929, Switchboard Operator, Telephone co.
McAllister, Helene, Wife, 27, born in Scotland, came to U.S. in 1929
McAllister, Jean, Daughter, 3, born in Canada, came to U.S. in 1929
All the best,
Sarah
