Thanks, Russell! As the old saying (probably a Scot saying!) goes, "Love happens!"

Hi Duncan

I don't know about
love happening
but the number of times we have found what appeared to be marriages of convenience.
First wife dies ....5 kids to look after.... marry the single girl next door since she hasn't found a man yet....... Another four kids with the new wife.......he dies......... she finds another man willing to take on her children, but also the two left at home from the first marriage plus his two under 12 year olds.........
I think common sense and practicality had more of a part to play than love although there must have been some of that developed when you look at family sizes back then.

Scottish social history is infinitely fascinating. :D

Don't forget to post the info when you do. I'm quite curious about these folks, having spent the morning communing with them  (you can tell I'm on French time now, since my morning was your middle-of-the-night)

It's the "at the same time" that I don't attempt... :D Come May, I'll be in your time zone again!

Format?

Post by DuncanBSutherland » Fri Nov 09, 2007 7:54 pm

Will do. Is there a more or less standard format that everyone uses?

Not really. Just note the details as they are given in whatever document you are reporting. If it turns out to be difficult to make out, by all means post the image in the gallery, and we will all try to read it. In these cases, many heads are definitely better than one!

Instructions for posting images, should you need help deciphering, can be found here:

Good luck!
