Hi Sally,
I'm sure Jean won't mind me answering you. Yes, Grantown-on-Spey was in the parish of Cromdale, Inverallan and Advie. Until 1869, that parish was in a detached piece of Inverness-shire. In 1870 the boundaries in that area were re-drawn and Cromdale, Inverallan and Advie became part of Moray (or Elginshire).
All the best,
AndrewP

Hi Andrew and Sally
Thank you both very much for your help. I am not in the habit of using the IGI and certainly wouldn't have thought of trying those variations on the names.
Perhaps if I had tried these variations I would have been more successful looking for Daniel's records at Grantown Museum.
This certainly encourages me to try out some other searches on IGI.
Thanks again.
Carolyn

Hi
The not so good news first:
I have tracked down the birth record for Donald Stuart (Daniel Stewart) which relates to the IGI info (via SP). Although the birth year fits and the father's name (Stuart for Stewart), the father's occupation looks like Dancing Master (!), when I know he was a Cooper.
The good news is:
Thanks to your advice, I followed up George (Daniel's brother) on IGI. which led me to his baptism record in Peterhead, which I had no previous success with. He is recorded as Stuart instead of Stewart .
I have followed up Elizabeth Forsyth, thanks to your info from IGI and have sent off for her birth details from SP as there is no certificate on their site. I can find no info on IGI re her marriage or death, same as SP and Ancestry.
However I am finding the Scottish certificates have so much more info than the English, and there seems to be more available on line.
Once again thanks to all of you for your help - a little lateral thinking goes a long way.
Very best wishes
Carolyn
