Hi Helen,

I too have the same problem - I did find a birth certificate for my John Beveridge baptised 27/1/1765 (notice only 9 years after yours).
My extract says
John Beveridge weaver Burgh of Dunfermline had a son born to him of his wife Margaret Dale January 24th baptised 27th named John, witnesses James Beveridge shoemaker in Dunfermline and Adam Beveridge Weaver therein.

Like you i can find absolutely no trace of a marriage between John Beveridge and Margaret Dale.( Although it definitely states 'wife' above) Nor can i find a connection to Adam or James!!
I think it had much to do with the breakaway of the church at the time. Seemingly the people objected to not being able to pick their own ministers and started their own church services. It was called Associate Session of ...... in my case Dunfermline. I am sure it had spread to other parts of Scotland most probably Edinburgh (someone correct me if i am wrong please). Problem is records were not recorded as well as they had previously been.
I have tried to find out more about the records at this time in the churches but have not had much luck.
Sorry if i can't be much more help Helen, i did find the siblings on the IGI but it still hasn't led me to a marriage cert!
Try every combination of the names that you can think of as i have found loads of variation of Beveridge from Belfrage to Belveradge.

Good luck,

Ailsa
