Hello Mrbred,

I couldn’t easily find any mention of a place by the name of Mccallum Moor.

It seems that MacCallum More was the Gaelic title of the Duke of Argyll. http://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/cgi-bi ... allum+more

There was a ship named MacCallum More, official number 68504. It was sold and renamed later in life.
Launched 1874. http://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/cgi-bi ... allum+more
Sunk 1917. http://www.wrecksite.eu/wreck.aspx?190104

Hope that’s useful.
Alan

Please can anyone help. I have Robert Mccullum born Luss Inverneshire 1884. This maybe my ancester although surname is different -mine is Mccallum.
Have looked but cannot find R/f to this.
Many thanks

Hi mrbred,

Where have you found the info about Robert McCullum, born 1884 in Luss, Inverness-shire? I see no corresponding birth certificate on ScotlandsPeople. Was this from a hand-written document (a census?)? How certain are you that it says Luss, Inverness-shire? The only Luss that I know of was in Dunbartonshire.

All the best,

AndrewP

Is it the soldier in barracks in 1911? If so his birthplace is given as Inverness, Fortree (until I hear otherwise I'll assume that should be Portree).

I don't know if you've seen the 1911 census but according to Catherine she is married and not widowed.

If you view the actual record it says Inverness, Fortree.
A look at SP doesn't show any Robert McCallum births at Portree in 1884.

Could it be Fortrose and not Fortree?? Fortrose is on the Black Isle next to Inverness.

I had that one in mind - Fortrose, Ross & Cromarty - when I had a look for this one. Almost all of the Robert M*c*ll*m births for the 1880s are in central Scotland. None around either Portree or Fortrose.

All the best,
