And wouldn't you know, I just got my online copy of the Ancestry newsletter which says they now have the original Naturalization records for New York, Pennsylvania, and California. That's probably my $7.50 flying by right now.
Off to check for my grandfather's cousin!

Back again.
The new records on Ancestry are "selected" Naturalizations for those three states. The California records are for the southern district and I needed the northern district so my $7.50 wasn't wasted after all.
I did find another person with the same last name in New York which I'm adding to my Maybe/Maybe not file--these are Finns from a small area of the country. Probably we are related, but maybe only by three or four genes?!!!

HI,
Good news......I just heard back from NAS......they found my records. Had me listed as Givvs. Don't know how they could ever have indexed me with that name. The records are now on the way to me, and the woman who helped me said that she will update my records to reflect the correct name.
I'm going to go check ancestry.com to see if I find myself under the wrong name

Hi Ina
Had me listed as Givvs.

big trouble for some future researcher....
Best wishes
