Hi Jean
You are a real gem. You have probably guessed my computer skills are a bit 'remedial'. I am even having trouble downloading from the LDS site!!!
Kind regards Kay

No such thing as remedial researchers around here!!!!
Matter of fact I'm thinking a couple of those links I posted might not work for you. I just tried clicking them myself and am getting a dreaded Ooops message from Google and a map in the USA!!!! Oh dear.
So now for some general internet searching advice. If you want to know about something then my first instinct is to "google" it. I even have the google taskbar as part of my desktop so the handy window is right there to type search words into. If you don't have this feature on your computer then you can use any number of search engines. And when I say any number there are more choices than I care to consider.... here is a link with some listed and a description. http://www.internettutorials.net/engines.html
As for downloading probs from the LDS site....ummmm...not sure what kind of downloading you are attempting. I don't think I"ve even downloaded anything from them....just tend to cut and paste the particular data record or list of results I'm interested in. If you want clues on cutting and pasting just yell.
Best wishes
Jean

Hi Kay,
A gedcom file needs to be opened in a family tree program to read it.
I think you can still download a free version of Family Tree Maker from Ancestry, but there are other free versions of other programs as well.

Ok I'm with you....and Yup you can download a GEDCOM. I just never do it this way as I've always entered my own tree data one bit at a time for the sake of knowing it's my own creation. That means an awful lot of typing data entry (probably why I'm always woefully behind on it
) I just tried a practice session on the record of your Niel and Catherine's dau Sarah. I use Legacy software for my gennie program and it had no probs importing the GEDCOM of her birth and I was able to view it afterward. So I guess we need to start with a question....what genealogy software program are you currently using? GEDCOM's are spose to be a standard format that are universally compatible but I wonder if your computer might need a nudge to realize this!! For example my own computer very helpfully tried to block my download until I firmly instructed it that it's ok I really know what I'm doing here
Best wishes

Off the subject a bit (well a lot actually, but need to ask
Do you find yourself telling your computer, out loud "If I didn't want to download it, I'd not have clicked download, you stupid machine"

Hold the left mouse button down and drag it over the text you wish to copy, [it'll turn blue]rubeaz wrote: How do you cut and paste your info.![]()
Kay.
then click the right mouse button , choose copy from the list
Left click on the page you wish to copy the information to [A word document perhaps]
right click again
this time choose paste
voila it should appear on the page.

Yes Jean, but the filter would have booted it if I'd use the words I usually yell at my PC

To Jean Annette and Mary
I finally got the GED info from LDS but didn't really tell me anything new.
Still unable to find anything helpful re Campbell/Whitelaw. But will keep trying to figure it out!
Just wanted to thank all of you for your help.
My best wishes Kay
